Torrijas Recipe - The Spanish French Toast Ingredients: 1 q milk 1 french bread (stale) 1 lemon peel 2 cinnamon sticks 5 oz sugar 3 eggs 1 c vegetables oil 2 T sugar 1/2 T cinnamon (powder) Instructions: In a medium size pot add 1 quart of milk, 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 lemon peel, and 5 ounces of sugar. Bring it to a slow boil. Stir to dissolve the sugar.When starting to boil, turn off the heat and set the pot aside. Remove the lemon peel and the cinnamon sticks.Slice the stale French bread into 1/2 - 1 inch thick approx.Arrange the French bread slices spread in some plates.Pour 2 tablespoons of milk into each bread slice side. Try to get them to absorb as much milk as they can without breaking apart.Let the French bread slices cool for 15 - 20 minutes.Beat the eggs in a bowl and heat with 1 cup of vegetables oil in a pan.Dip the bread slices into the beaten eggs.Fry over medium heat the bread slices for 2 minutes each side or until golden. Set Torrijas on paper towels to drain the excess oil.In a mortar mix 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon powder and grind for 1 - 2 minutes.Sprinkle the mix on the top of the Torrijas and let them cool for 20 minutes.Serve and enjoy your Spanish style French toast recipe!
